What is DACA?
The DACA program protects immigrants from deportation and gives them a renewable work permit. To qualify for a DACA work permit, you must have come to the US as a child, before your 16th birthday, must have a clean criminal record, and be currently in school or must have completed high school or GED. The DACA work permit will also allow you to get a social security number and a driver’s license. The DACA program was created by President Obama, thereafter President Trump has unsuccessfully tried to cancel it. Thus, USCIS is accepting, processing and approving applications to renew DACA work permits. However, USCIS is not accepting first time applicants. DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Applicants of the DACA work permit are often called Dreamers.
